Puck Systems V2 Demo
June 30, 2006 | by CarsonWe are proud to announce the launch of the Puck Systems V2 demo site. Stop by the site and check out the new “Add a Page” and “Edit Page” functionality. The demo site is a sneak-peak of what Puck Systems clients can expect in the upcoming V2 release.
V2 represents a total overhaul in functionality and design and truly brings professional internet communication tools to the youth sports realm. Since the inception of Puck Systems we have had the great fortune of working with incredible clients. Clients who are as passionate about their youth sports organizations as we are about web development. It’s these passionate clients that have provided an incredible amount of inspiration during the current development cycle… and ultimately influenced a number of great enhancements and features that will be present in the final release of V2.
Please experiment with the demo, add, edit or delete anything you want. Brief instructions can be found on the “Instructions” page. After you play with the demo, stop back and leave a comment- these comments will serve as valuable input as we put the finishing touches on V2.

Thanks for the heads-up Greg; the demo should be saving Text Block elements correctly now.

Just created a new page on the demo site. Everything worked as expected with no errors (using a Powerbook G4, OSX 10.3.x and Firefox). This is a huge step forward…nice work!
Comment: Longer page names that word wrap (like the one I created “8th Annual SYHA Golf Fundraiser”) look a little odd when displayed on the left of the page.
Question: Will we be able to imbed pictures into a text block or associate a picture with a text block? Say, for example, I wanted to use a small jpg file for the Creeks Bend Golf Course logo on one of the text blocks I created, is there a way to do that?

Any chance of adding Frames as an option so the user doesn’t leave the site? I realize that opening a new window at least keeps them on our original.

Curtis, glad to hear everything worked well. Great suggestion on the photo, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about that exact issue. We do plan to provide the ability to embed a photo in a text block by the time V2 is ready to roll out.
Fred, we have thought about the Frame option, but have opted against it. We’d prefer that a linked site be able to pop up in its own window without any additional frames or Puck Systems branding. Popping it up in a new window does allow the user to stay on the Puck Systems site as well. Thanks!

Awesome effects on the new site. Design is beautiful as well, just like sotanlife.
Carson: I sent you an email last week asking you about how your transition is going from PHP to Rub on Rails; maybe you missed it. I ask because I’m considering dedicating some time to getting aquainted with rails myself, and I was looking for 3rd North’s opinion. Respond to my email if you get a chance.
Great works on Puck Systems v2 guys.

Thanks for the comments Derrick. I passed your email on to Mike; he’ll be able to give you a bit more technical insight into our ROR transition than I can. Look for an email from him in the near future.

It would be nice to be able to change font color in the text box editor. See my example on the test website under Todd’s page.
Otherwise thinks are Look’n good!

Thanks for the suggestion Friz, and for the compliment! That’s always a tough decision. Internally we have to try and find the balance between empowering the user and maintaining a certain degree of design consistency. This is a perfect example of that give and take.

Any chance of having the option of combining all of the separate items on each individual teams calendar — onto a main “association” calendar automatically? Last year I did this by checking each teams calendar and hand typing them all into the main association one.

Tracie, very good suggestions, we’ve heard that from a handful of people. We are seriously considering reworking the calendar to have that capability. We have also considered adding a “compiler page” that would allow you to check any teams that you want and generate a calendar containing the events of just those teams. I’ll keep the board updated on the progess of these additions. Hopefully we’ll have them available for this season.
